The Île-de-France region withdraws a second subsidy from the Pride March: "Valérie Pécresse belongs to the ranks of the reactionary international"

Valérie Pécresse, during the standing committee of the Île-de-France region on Thursday, June 19, decided to withdraw a second grant from Inter-LGBT, intended for the organization of the Pride March on Saturday, June 28. On June 5, the president of the Region had, in a post on X (ex-Twitter), announced the withdrawal of a first grant . These decisions, with overtones of political censorship, follow the distribution of the poster calling for this mobilization, published in preview in l'Humanité .

"Following the extreme right once again, Valérie Pécresse is relentlessly opposing this event in support of LGBT+ rights and equality," the elected representatives of the Communist, Green and Citizen Left denounced in a press release.

This subsidy is, however, "due", insofar as it was granted and voted on for the 2023 Pride March. This about-turn was initiated by the National Rally (RN) , which believes "that it would appear totally inconsistent for the executive to validate this subsidy today" . "Valérie Pécresse therefore shares the opinion of the RN" , protest in a press release the elected representatives of the France Insoumise group and related to the Île de France regional council, which affirms that "nothing now separates the regional right from Jean-Marie Le Pen's party" .

"This new attack is a serious decision, which confirms that Valérie Pécresse belongs to the ranks of the reactionary international," explains the Communist, Ecologist and Citizen Left group, which estimates a net loss of 50,000 euros for the organizers. "No need to go as far as Hungary to Mr. Orban to see that the right is relentlessly attacking equal rights!" writes the communist senator for Paris, Ian Brossat, on X.

As a reminder, after the publication of the poster for the Pride march on June 28, the far right fueled a violent controversy on social networks. "Veiled woman, white man martyred and caricatured as a fascist, support for Palestine, while homosexuals, bisexuals and trans people are massacred there... these are the markers of extremists who mock the very real violence suffered by homosexuals in France like so many other French people," wrote for example on X (ex-Twitter) the spokesperson for the RN Jean-Philippe Tanguy .

"The use of financial leverage demonstrates a desire to silence our movement and our demands. A part of the political spectrum, here Valérie Pécresse, is giving in to the reactionary international that attacks us and against whom we are fighting," said Inter-LGBT in an interview with L'Humanité .
